How Do You Become An Anesthesia Technician – Our program combines academic and clinical instruction to learn how to prepare, store and handle complex anesthesia equipment and suction fluids, as well as assemble complex equipment. Skyline College offers an 18-month program, takes one course each fall semester, and includes a clinical practicum. With an additional 30 units of general education credit, a graduate of the program may apply for an Associate of Science in Anesthesia Technology.

An anesthesia technologist (AT) assists the anesthesia provider in the safe and effective care of patients under anesthesia. Anesthesia is a basic and advanced clinical procedure, where the anesthesia provider relies on well-trained staff to be ready for the patient. This is a rewarding, exciting and fast-paced role that offers job security and mobility as an important member of the anesthesia team.
A typical day for an anesthesia technologist begins at 7:00 am. The IT reports to the anesthesia operating room, sees patients and plans how to support the anesthesia providers for the day. Anesthesia technologists may work in a variety of clinical settings, including general medical and surgical hospitals and outpatient centers.
As a new program, the anesthesia technology program at Skyline College has been awarded a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Anesthesia Technology Education (CoA-ATE). This letter is not CAAHEP’s accreditation status; This is through status, application materials, and other documents demonstrating that the program seeking initial accreditation meets the accreditation standards. The letter of recommendation is recognized by the American Association of Anesthesiology Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) for eligibility to take the credentialing exam. However, this is not a guarantee of accreditation.

Skyline College of Allied Health Sciences has a new simulation lab located in Building 7, Room 7-211. The laboratory has state-of-the-art Gaumard adult, infant and premiere simulators. The laboratory also has a full patient monitor, beds, standard clinical supplies and a video recording system.
Patient simulators can provide all vital signs, including heart and respiratory rate, pulse, lung sounds, pupil response and oxygen saturation. The manikins can simulate almost any medical problem or condition, including cardiac, respiratory, neurological, musculoskeletal and metabolic problems.
Patient simulators provide a holistic experience where students can see the results of their work in real time. The Simulation Lab is currently used to train students in the Surgical Technology, Respiratory, Anesthesia Technology and Central Services Technology programs.

Doctor Of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (dnap)
Designed for students who wish to advance their knowledge in selected areas or through individualized instruction, to be arranged by the instructor and approved by the department dean using an independent study form. Different teaching modes can be used – laboratory, research, skill development etc. For each unit worked, students must work three hours per week during the semester. Students may take only one independent study course in a given discipline.
An introductory chemistry course designed to prepare students for general chemistry (CHEM 210). Introduces basic concepts in chemistry with an emphasis on the application of mathematical problem solving methods in chemistry. Lecture topics include the basic structure of atoms, combinations of elements in chemical compounds, the metric system and measurement, significant figures, using dimensional analysis and algebra to solve chemical problems, chemical reactions using balanced equations, and stoichiometry. In the laboratory, the student will learn about common laboratory equipment and techniques.
