But education at this level is more than just grades. The UCLA – NUS Executive MBA is truly a course for its time. Business is clearly booming in the Pacific, and here you have the opportunity to see this economic hotspot from both perspectives. Of course, this also brings a diverse mix of international students, which in itself leads to lively learning and the development of business contacts, which can lead to really exciting opportunities on both sides of the Pacific. It is Thursday 20 January 2022 in Kallang, central Singapore. I had just woken up from severe jet lag in my temporary hotel room. The semester started two weeks ago at the National University of Singapore, but due to the Covid-19 restrictions and the lack of specific vaccinated flights, I agreed to online courses for the first two weeks.

My name is Sarah Aperia. I am 26 years old and from Stockholm. I am currently completing my dual MA: MA in Business, Language and Culture – Business and Development Studies at CBS and CEMS MIM at CBS and now also at the National University of Singapore. I look forward to studying in this highly ranked, highly diverse environment, as well as traveling and exploring the rich culture and history of Southeast Asia. I will also do my best to describe the best combination of two worlds: a busy corporate life and a relaxing tropical atmosphere.

On this sunny morning, the day has finally arrived and I am full of excitement and determination – it is the first day of a new chapter in my life as a CEMS exchange student at NUS Business School, one of Asia’s top-ranked universities. I have been dreaming of this day since I was first accepted into the CEMS program in the fall of 2020. My enthusiasm to begin this new adventure is off the charts and I have a real spring in my step when it comes to catching up. The bus that takes me to campus.

When I arrived at the large campus area, I was both fascinated and confused at the same time. Indeed, it is no exaggeration to describe the NUS campus area as something of a city in itself, with the core of its vibrant student life located in the university town.

In U-town, as NUS students call it, you can pretty much do anything between classes – eat in one of the canteens with affordable and delicious Asian and global food, take a dip in the pool, participate. A yoga class, a haircut, a walk in the green park near campus, play tennis or study with classmates at the central library.

Perhaps this is why many students, from Singapore and elsewhere, choose to live in an on-campus dormitory – there’s no real incentive to leave campus, as you have everything you need close to home. However, I personally prefer living in central Singapore as it symbolizes the boundary to define study-life balance.

I really like the classes I have chosen to study here at the National University of Singapore: Ethical Leadership, Global Leadership and FinTech Management. In addition to that, I am also writing a CEMS business project on central banks’ digital currency strategies with the world-renowned bank BNP Paribas, as well as completing my master’s thesis on blockchain technology and human rights at Copenhagen Business School.

The courses effectively combine my personal, professional and academic interests (e.g. innovative technology and sustainable development) and provide me with deep knowledge from both theoretical and practical implementation. Workshops and lectures include high-quality interactive classroom activities such as workshops, lively discussions and inspiring guest lectures from Singapore’s business elite.

I attend classes twice a week – Tuesdays and Thursdays – and try to optimize the social environment on these days by networking as much as I can. Other weekdays I study in cafes and libraries scattered around the city. With highly intelligent and inspiring professors and a multinational, diverse and ambitious group of students from all over the world, NUS truly creates a very unique and exciting student environment.

I am proud to belong to such a motivated group of individuals. Studying at NUS has given me memories, knowledge and friendships that will strengthen my leadership and skills as a global citizen for many years to come, and for which I am eternally grateful. Thanks to the CEMS office at CBS and NUS and all the professors and students who made this experience truly memorable.

As the National University of Singapore is a large university with almost 40,000 students and 3,000 academic staff, you can imagine an extraordinarily high level of diversity, life and activity. Since almost all types of people are represented on campus, everyone can feel at home.

In addition, there are many student associations and clubs that aim to bring together students who are interested in, for example, sports, dance, music, football, tennis, golf and sailing. I chose to get involved with CEMS Club Singapore and Masters Club NUS, which organize social, cultural and sporting events that bring together Masters students from around the world.

National University Of Singapore

Since I arrived in January, I have participated in almost every event and made many new friends. For example, student associations organized cultural appreciation events for the Chinese New Year and the Indian spring festival of Holi, which were incredible experiences to attend.

The common denominator that bridges the gap between many individual students is a high level of ambition and clear plans for the future. Every person I spoke to, regardless of background, had very specific goals and objectives for the future.

On the one hand, it helps
