During anesthesiology, you follow Dr. Lindgren, a sophomore anesthesiologist at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in neurobiology and later attended medical school at Texas Tech. Her additional education includes an MBA from Rawls College of Business.
In her life as an anesthesiologist, Dr. Lindgren spends time in both the pre-op clinic and in the operating room during various surgeries. She enjoys performing procedures, administering medications and taking care of patients from the beginning to the end of their surgery experience. Dr. Lindgren talks about the different fields of anesthesiology and advises pre-med students interested in a career in medicine and anaesthesia.
While you don’t have to go through your residency and fellowship just yet, with anesthesiology through the Virtual Clinical Education Series, you’ll learn about the day-to-day life of an anesthetist and earn a certificate of completion that you can add to your medical school application and resume. At the end of the session with Dr. Lindgren can answer questions such as:

The annual conference of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) featured extensive participation from Weill Cornell. The conference was held in San Francisco from October 12 to 16. There were more than 20 events led by Weill Cornell faculty, fellows, residents and medical students. In addition to the conference presentations, panels, and poster sessions, Weill Cornell hosted a reception on Sunday evening, October 13, where current faculty, fellows, and residents could interact with alumni. The department’s participation in 2013 was regarded as a success on all fronts.
Here is a list of all the presentations given by Weill Cornell anesthesiologists at the 2013 ASA meeting:

Physicians specializing in anesthesiology usually begin their academic careers with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, usually majoring in pre-med or science.
It is not required that you must major in pre-med, but focusing your coursework in biology, chemistry, calculus, and physics will all prepare you for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and medical school.
Your MCAT score plays a huge role in your ability to get accepted into medical school. The MCAT consists of two parts: a written test on internal medicine, gynecology, preventive medicine and surgery; and an assessment of clinical skills, including communication and interpersonal skills and proficiency in English.
Everything You Need To Know About Becoming An Anesthesiologist
Start studying by taking a diagnostic practice test to familiarize yourself with the entire test and establish your baseline performance. Use your initial test results to determine which content areas you need to work on and to build your study plan.
We recommend setting up a weekly study schedule with reserved study blocks. If you give yourself 3 months to prepare for the MCAT, we recommend that you study for at least 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. Assign a specific topic of study to each block so you know what to study.
To enroll in a residency program, prospective anesthesiologists must submit an application that highlights their competitive MCAT, USMLE, or COMLEX scores, perform well during anesthesiology rotations, and provide strong letters of recommendation. On an annual contest day, a computer program matches candidates to residency programs based on the preferences and performance of both.
Residents take the Boards final exam at the end of their base year. This step 3 exam includes both a written portion and case simulations, testing whether clinicians can apply their training in ambulatory settings while treating a wound or diagnosing a patient.
