This is a diagram I’ve wanted to do for a long time, but never got around to finishing it. But recently because of a friend’s request. So I pushed to finish it.
Timeline Of Prophets In Old Testament
This is a timeline of the kings of Israel and Judah and the prophets of God who were present at that time. This is important to understand because the prophetic books of the Old Testament are not arranged in chronological order.
Old Testament Timeline — Josh Turansky
The dates in BCE are based on the approximate dates of the Wikipedia entries for the kings of Israel and Judah. As I was drawing on the information, I was drawn to the following teachings
There are 20 kings of Judah and 19 different kings of Israel from Rehoboam. One would feel that both countries are working at the same time. But the truth. The kingdom of Israel was destroyed around 720 BCE, and Judah survived for about 200 years.
One thing we can see is that the kingdom of Israel has had many changes of dynasties (ruling family). Athelah was of the house of Ahab, and perhaps the only princess of the kingdom of Israel, who married into the house of David.
The kingdom of Israel had a history of betrayal and murder, and within its history there were many generals who rebelled and took over the kingdom. The house of Omri and the house of Jehu are the longest ruling families in Israel

However, I didn’t find much evidence in the book of Joel and Obadiah, so I added the commonly identified era, and I put a question mark next to their name.
We know that there was sometimes war between the house of Israel and Judah. But in Jehoshaphat’s time they were friends. Sometimes considering their friendship, it’s really ironic.
1. Kings 22 When Micaiah prophesied that Ahab would be killed in battle, this man dressed up his ally as king. Fortunately, God saved him (1 Kings 22:32-34).
2. I would guess that it was during that time that Athaliah was most likely introduced to the house of David, and interestingly enough you will notice that King Jehoram and Ahaziah turned out to be bad kings. Ahaziah is murdered by Athaliah (a typical Israeli politician) and she seizes power. She killed all the heirs to the throne of Judah (2 Kings 11:1) and King Joash was saved only by the help of his aunt Jehosheba and the priest Jehoiada.

1. God is faithful to the covenant he swore to David. Thus he protected his offspring. Had Athaliah succeeded in killing the house of David, the Messiah would not have come as a descendant of David.
2. “Evil company corrupts good habits.” 1 Cor 15:33. Jehoshaphat’s choice of friend led to the downfall of his house. He almost lost his life in the war.
One thing we can see is that the kingdom of Israel had many changes of ruling family.. Judah is completely under the house of David.

When God chose Jeroboam I and gave him 10 tribes, God commanded him to lead the people like David and create a dynasty for him like David (1 Kings 11:37-38).
Sadly, he didn’t, he created golden calves for people to worship. This is why Israel’s sin is often given the brand name of “the sin of Jeroboam son of Nebat,” his choice allowed for Israel’s violent history of decadence of faith.
God did not give up on Israel, he raised Jehu to judge the house of Ahab and anointed him king of Israel (2 Kings 9:8-19) which he did a good job, he killed all the family of Ahab, he also killed Ahaziah. The King of Judah and Queen Jezebel.
But sadly, Jehu did not follow God, he followed the sin of Jeroboam, so Israel was not restored (2 Kings 10:29-31)
Prophets In The Bible — Who Are The Prophets In The Bible?
God sent Elijah and Elisha to the house of Israel to call the people back, and sadly not all repented. These people were scattered. And there are many signs of them all over the world
God has always sent prophets to his people, and some of the historical figures you see are prophets. They are Samuel, Nathan, Ahijah, Elijah, Elisha and Micaiah. But interestingly, they do not write prophetic books.
When God gave Israel rest from their enemies and blessed them during the reign of Jeroboam II, God sent Amos to warn Israel of her coming judgment. God sent Jonah to the city of Nineveh (as we know from history that Assyria would eventually destroy Israel).
Interestingly, before the kingdom of Israel is destroyed, there is Micah, Isaiah, and Hosea. But God finally executed judgment because Israel did not repent.

If we observe the number of prophets that existed just before the destruction of the Jewish kingdom, God sent more messengers to Judah. Ezekiel, Jeremiah, and Daniel who lived had to suffer with the people. Nahum and Habakkuk are there.
Most of the prophetic books were written here, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi were written after the return of the exiles.
Before God executes His judgment, He will send many messengers to warn you. Most accused the God of the Old Testament of being a bloodthirsty God who was out to kill the disobedient. Yet they do not realize how often God has pleaded with His people.
When we often complain that God’s ways are not righteous, have we been righteous toward God when we sin against Him? Are we angry with Him for judging us for our mistakes? God actually sent countless prophets to tell the world to stop sinning because He had to judge it, yet man ignored God’s words and was accused of being bloodthirsty while executing His judgment.

So God surely asks us, “Are my ways not just, and your ways not just?”
Let us hear the voice of the prophets and turn away. God never wanted anyone to die because of their sins. Cyrus, king of Persia, made a proclamation throughout his kingdom and wrote it down.
The prophets of ancient Israel spoke of the events mentioned in the Old Testament long before they actually happened. Israel was faced with a choice of blessings or curses. Blessings if they follow Yahweh and curses if they forsake Him. Their great leader Moses warned the people of Israel not to disobey Jehovah.
Deuteronomy 28:49-50 – “Yahweh will bring against you a people from afar and from the ends of the earth, as the eagle flies; a people whose language you will not understand; a people whose faces are fierce. Do not respect the elderly, do not show favor to the young.”
Israel In The Last Days
Below is a list of the kings and prophets of Israel and Judah, as well as the kings of the surrounding kingdoms of Assyria, Babylon, and Persia.
Deuteronomy 28:62-64 – Though you were as numerous as the stars of heaven, you will remain few in number. Because you did not listen to the voice of Jehovah your God. Just as the Lord took pleasure in you to do you good and multiply you, so the Lord will take pleasure in you to destroy and destroy you. You will be uprooted from the land you are going to possess. Jehovah will scatter you among all the nations from one end of the earth to the other. There you will serve other gods, neither wood nor stone, which neither you nor your fathers have known. An updated version of our original Kings and Prophets poster, this print shows a horizontal timeline of the reigns of kings and the ministry of prophets. .
