I knew I wanted the exterior of our house to have a dark finish to offset the light brick. However, we also decided to paint our shed.
But choosing a white paint can be difficult! So let’s break down the main factors when choosing a white color for your exterior.

We’re going to dive deeper into the four factors you should consider when choosing white exterior paint. However, a general rule that can help you is that shadowy rooms do well with bright white. Homes in direct sunlight will benefit from creamier shades.

First determine the undertone of the white color you are considering. All paint colors have undertones that lead back to the primary color.
White paint is especially smart because of these undertones. The best way to determine your off-white undertone is to hold a paint swatch against a sheet of white computer paper.
Strong whites are often considered the best off-white colors because cool colors relate well to natural colors.
The third element to think about is natural light. If your home’s exterior is heavily shaded, the paint color you choose will look different than if it is in full sun.

Most paint shops have fluorescent lights, which produce completely different colors than natural light. So a paint shop color will not look the same as the exterior color of the house.
Make sure you use the same paint brand samples from the store where you buy your paint.
When I painted the outside of our house, I bought samples from a different store than the paint company. Our colors were completely different! Each store location has a different calibration on their machines which can slightly alter the color results.

So make sure you get samples from where you buy your paint. Then paint some samples on your exterior and see how they look in different lights.
Make sure you check them throughout the day. They will look different at sunrise, noon and sunset due to changes in the sun’s intensity.

For example, we have had this windmill in this exact location for three years. After we painted the shed white, most of our friends and family finally noticed! They had never seen it before because it blended in with the previous color.

While trying to choose the best exterior white paint for my shed, I came across many beautiful white paints along the way. After some discussion I decided to go with a fresh bright white.
In my opinion, the best white paint for exteriors (or outbuildings): Snowbound by Sherwin Williams.
I would consider it the best white for exterior decoration! It is a bright white with light gray undertones. You can see how I used it on my external deck in this post.
It’s obviously the best white for me. This does not mean that it is the best white for everyone. So I wanted to share nine more whites that would be a beautiful choice for your home’s exterior.

Exterior paint is highly affected by the sun. A bright, pure white can be too much for a house’s exterior because white reflects light.
Pure white paint works great to brighten up an interior room, but outside it can look overwhelming. I would go with one of the more subtle colors below.
Note: Here I am referring to a true, bright, crisp white when I say “pure white”. I am not referring to the paint color called pure white.
Cass Makes a House His house was painted by the Swiss Kofi Behr. Swiss Coffee is an off-white with a slight creamy undertone.
Which Is The Best Exterior White Paint For Home?
White Dove was used by Benjamin Moore in Thistle Harvest. White Dove is a soft creamy white. It has yellow undertones that feel warm without losing its crispness.

Jenna Sue Designs chose Oyster White by Sherwin Williams. Oyster white is a very warm white, edged with light grey. I love how soft it is and how it pops with the black and wood accents.
The white farmhouse is color matched to her house in a color called linen (color match C2-692 for Milk Mustache by C2 Paint). It is a soft white that is modern with a subtle warmth.

The Fox family used Ultra White by Dane Cabot. Ultra White is a solid white exterior wood stain against paint.
